CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING—WHAT IS IT & WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING—WHAT IS IT & WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

At Commercial Dehydrators, our focus is always on providing a superior quality product to our customers. Not only does this reflect in the aesthetics and functionality of our dehydrators, but also in the materials used to make our dehydrators too.

On many of your household items, in particular, those sold in California, you may have seen a warning label on the product mentioning Proposition 65. This warning can also be found on the product pages of many websites, including those of some of our competitors in the commercial/industrial dehydrator industry. But what does the Proposition 65 warning mean and why is it NOT ON OUR products here at Commercial Dehydrators?
Read on to find out…

WHAT IS PROPOSITION 65?

Proposition 65 is a law that requires businesses to be transparent with consumers about the chemicals used in their products or services, that when exposed, they could suffer significant health issues such as cancer, birth defects or other reproductive problems. Having a law in place that states that this information must be provided, enables consumers to make sound decisions when it comes to the products they use, and whether they’re going to be beneficial to them in the long term.

WHAT CHEMICALS?

Starting in 1987, a list of harmful chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive issues, was published by California and has been updated yearly as required by Proposition 65. Currently, the list contains over 900 chemicals which include both natural and synthetic chemicals such as those found in pesticides, household products, food, drugs, dyes or solvents. They can also be chemicals that are present in construction or manufacturing processes.

IS THE WARNING ON OUR PRODUCTS?

We’re proud to say that you will not find the Proposition 65 warning on our commercial dehydrators or anywhere on our website. We take great pride in our products and want to ensure that each and every one of our commercial and industrial dehydrators that we sell is safe to use and of no harmful risk to our customers.

Unlike a lot of dehydrating units out there that are made of plastic materials, our commercial and industrial dehydrators are made of full stainless steel. The benefit of this is that not only are they easy to clean and can withstand higher temperatures without the risk of melting, but they’re also without the harmful chemicals that are often found in plastics—meaning our units don’t have the potential risk of bacteria absorbing into the material and therefore seeping into foods, the same way plastic does.

At Commercial Dehydrators, we stand by the quality of our product and focus on providing you with an exceptional customer experience always. We’re always here to support you on your dehydrating journey and by connecting with our team, 24 hours a day/7 days a week, you're sure to get expert advice from people that actually use our products.

WHAT DOES A PROPOSITION 65 WARNING MEAN?

If the Proposition 65 warning is found on a product or the website of a business, it means that the company is holding itself accountable and stating that by using their products, you could be exposed to chemicals that pose a significant risk to your health. In California, it’s a law that this warning is given, unless the levels of exposure are so low that there is no potential threat to the consumer.

As of mid-2018, any warning label found on a product or packaging must list at least one of the chemicals of concern. Some businesses may choose to list them all but it’s not required, therefore if you’re unsure, concerned and seeking further information on what harmful chemicals can be found in particular products, then it’s best to contact the manufacturer to find out what hazardous chemicals are used and what the risks are if exposed.

Outside of California, businesses are not required by law to have the Proposition 65 warning label on their products, even if they’re aware they contain cancer-causing chemicals.
